Description
This work is intended to offer guidance to pharmacists who require to bridge the gap between their theoretical knowledge and its practical application to individual patients. A series of case studies drawn from all over the UK is presented in a question and answer format. The topics incorporated in the book cover a wide area including both commonly encountered and problematic diseases and types of therapy in which major advances have been achieved in recent years. By presenting a case and using the question and answer format, the authors demonstrate how they would select the most appropriate therapy for the patient under discussion and how they would monitor the chosen therapy by observing the patient and interpreting the results of laboratory tests, including serum drug concentrations. They also illustrate how skills such as formulation, the taking of medical histories and counselling can be used by pharmacists to improve patient care. The detailed index to disease states and drug names is intended to facilitate the use of the book as a teaching aid
